At the Galabertes gîte

The Galabertès is a farm which used to be an old fortified 'magnanerie' [1]. It is located in a spectacularly wild and unspoilt setting far away from any urban or industrial centres. From the house there is a splendid panoramic view across the Cévennes.

A river named 'le Gardon de St Martin' runs through the farm. Freshwater crayfish and trout can be found and sometimes beaver can be seen, while short-toed eagles are regular visitors. In the autumn season wild mushrooms (cêpes) and chestnuts are a real treat.

[1] a building designed and constructed specifically for raising silk worms for the production of silk cocoons from which silk thread was then drawn. 'Magnan' is the old provençal word for silk worm.
